I think I'm jealous?

We still have no snow! Drive to the south 30 miles and they have snow. Drive 30 miles to the east and they have it! We don't even get dustings here...just the bitter cold. Today's high was 20 with a low tonight of around 6 I think. If its going to be this cold, we should have snow.

I went out to the chicken pen and i heard PEEPING! Yes two chicks happened to hatch in this unbearable cold to a mother who already had a clutch this year. I didn't think she could keep the eggs warm enough but there were indeed two chicks. If no more eggs hatch by morning I'll bring them into the back room (it stays about 40 degrees back there) so they can have a chance at survival. Just when I thought babies were done for the year! :)

Garrett, I love chickens, would love to have chickens but Darryl says no. LOL. If you bring them in please take a picture.

We had chickens growing up. We couldn't have chickens now the bird dogs would take care of them. My friend Harry had chickens until Wicca came to visit. Now he has no chickens, at least she brought them to hand.

I don't understand the desire for snow.

Jinnie, up here if we don't get snow (and we still get the cold) we have our water lines and sewer lines and finally our sewers freeze up. Making it diffcult for life!! One year we didn't have snow until March and everyone's water lines were froze (our's included) and the sewers were freezing (usually the mound systems first). Without snow we also lose a lot of landscaping (shrubs, bulbs, perennials, trees) as there is not enough snow (or any) to insulate from the cold.

I'm not saying I like the snow, but if its going to be this cold we should have some snow cover! it helps insulate the roots and the pipes! :)

Dear Garrett,

Where are your from? Clearly, not from Minnesota. Anyone born in Minnesota knows that 20 degrees is NOT bitter cold. Anything above Zero is not bitter cold! So tell me, where are you from???

;-)

Sending snowy thoughts your way!

I agree with you Garrett. If it is bitter cold, snow must accompany it. We had one cold spell here a couple weeks ago, now we are inmoderate temps again. Western NY is covered. we had one dusting of snow on Sunday - which turned to rain - which in turn made everyone of my dogs who just had a bath within 12-24 hours mud balls again.

I never think of snow as insulation, just cold wet stuff that causes people to drive like morons and the dogs to go nutty.

Ok if you want snow I hope you get it. I told Polly that I was requesting no snow for my trip to Denver on the 12th when I go see the PJ x Pip babies.

LOL, I was thinking along the same line as Nancy, the bitter cold hasn't arrived yet. I know it's been cold out there and the wind chills have been below zero, but I'm not complaining yet. I'll never forget the year it was -20F on the deer hunting opener. Things could be much worse. We don't have any snow here either.
Congrats on the baby chicks. The mother hen will keep them warm. If you can keep their waterer from freezing with that heat light over it, that will be great!

Just a light dusting of snow here :(

A long time coming!

It has been a long time. Too long in fact. We lost access to our farm website and ebonwald website when WEBS.COM was closed by VistaPrint. ...
